It's June....
Finally it's June! School will be out on Tuesday, June 11th....Yayyyyyyyy!
So I got my testing results back from the first set of RPL panel bloodwork tests.
They were all normal...yay!!!!!!
So to recap, I had:
Check out my previous page here for more info on these tests.
We are just waiting on our Karotypes. We had those drawn on Saturday, May 31st with LabCorp.
The picture above makes me want to laugh....I got asked to do a few things this summer and I literally was like....
YEAHHHHHhhhhhhh....ummmmmm....I can't.
Like gotta save my money can't. Oh well...
I will visit my sister in Arizona...just not sure when. My first priority is doing this FET.
We will have a phone consultation with our RE on Friday, June 13th at 3:00 p.m. He is going to go over what the plan is for the shots and FET.
I still haven't gotten my period yet. It will be 2 weeks tomorrow from the negative beta. My nurse said it could take up to 6 weeks. Last time, I had gotten my period after 37 days from the D&C.
Today is day 41....June 5th.

- Lupus anti-coagulant (LAC)
- Anti-B2 Glycoprotein 1
- TSH
- Prolactin

How many embryos to transfer?
So I go back and forth and back and forth with this like I imagine most infertiles do.
Here is a good article I found on Pinterest if you want to check it out here.
My husband is totally against transferring 2. He says that he 'knows' both will stick and we will have twins and it will be too hard to deal with 2 babies.
We have 3 frozen. My RE said we could do 1, then 2. Or 2, then 1 for 2 FETs.
My hubby wants to do, 1, 1, then, 1.
I see the 1 vs 2 both ways:

Now, from what I've read about incompetent cervix is that they are caused by several factors:
What my RE said in a conversation I had with him on June 13th was that there is no research that proves previous D&C's weaken the cervix. He said that D&E's do....so a 2nd trimester loss or later would make it weakened.
Now the American Pregnancy Association didn't have this, but I have read too that smaller framed women have a tougher time with incompetent cervixes too. I could be wrong, but that's what I thought I read.
I do worry about the previous D&C's. I don't worry about the frame...lol...I know you cannot tell, but I'm almost 6'0" and weigh 240 lbs. I am about 20 lbs over what I usually am and I'm going to blame that on not working out during IVF. HOWEVER, I have a very big frame and am much more muscular than your typical woman. Played 4 sports in high school, several in college, and was an All-American in college.
Anywho, I am not worried about my frame. But again, I am not 100% that is even an accurate factor. I will ask my RE about this. UPDATE: My RE said size doesn't matter. Bigger hips will have an easier time birthing, but nothing says my cervix is longer, stronger, faster, bigger, lol, than a petite woman.
But what do you do? We are not the typical RPL people....we know exactly why we lost 2 girls. Freaking abnormal embryos with the most common random chromosomal issues. We are in the 3% who have recurrent loss.
So far, there is nothing wrong with either of us. Guess we gotta wait until we get back our karotypes, but even then if those are normal...can lightning strike 3 times?
- Previous D&C's or other cervix surgeries (can cause structural damage)
- Malformed uterus or damaged from previous difficult birth
- DES exposure

CD1.................Yayyyyyyyyy!
It came! It came!
Yayyyy!!!!! My period came!
Exactly 6 weeks since the D&C, my period started. 2 weeks after beta was negative.
We are still waiting on the results from our Karotypes we did on May 31st.
Started my first birth control pill today, June 8th.
I contacted Shady Grove and here is the plan:
I will have to go and get another saline sonogram and mock embryo transfer while I'm on birth control.
I can do monitoring in Wexford and just go to Shady Grove for my saline sonogram and mock transfer.
FET is on July 18th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!

Karotypes results
So literally as I closed the laptop, my husband got in his email that his karotype was ready to be viewed by LapCorp.
I didn't get one yet, but I imagine it will be coming.
His results are negative! Yayyyyyyyyyy!
Here's what is said:
Result:
NEGATIVE
(No Y chromosome deletions were detected)
Interpretation:
No deletions of Y chromosome loci associated with normal
spermatogenesis were detected.

Welp, there's always a problem...or two...
So here's a few things that happened this week:
#1 Ordering FET meds
MY.GOD. What a nightmare this is all the time. I tell you I NEVER get my meds smoothly.
Apparently, there was an Del Estrogen shortage. Yeah believe it or not....I literally had to call 4 pharmacies to find it. CVS retail said I could pay $150 instead of $10 for generic. Yeah...not happening.
Freedom Fertility had it luckily...$10! So I am getting my Progesterone in Oil shots for $10 too. They will be shipped on Tuesday, June 17th.
#2 My hubby's karotype test
We get a call from the nurse at my RE's office that LabCorp ran the wrong test. You know that damn karotype that came back negative that I posted above? Yeah, wrong test. Apparently, they were supposed to do all the chromosomes, but they only did the Y. So I guess it's good that his Y is fine, but jeez! I am happy to have the summer off: I spent close to an hour figuring this out. Since LabCorp messed up, my nurse didn't want us to get charged since he would have to go in again to get re-drawn. Well, she contacted customer service and told me that it was all straighten out. Two hours later, I decide to call to just make sure....glad I did. Fuckers had no notes written in our account about this. Here I am crying on the phone saying I just want these results asap and I have to wait again for his come in. The rep told me that she was going to call my local LabCorp and let them know so we don't go in there looking like idiots with this story. The tech used the wrong color lid on the test tube to draw....it should've been green and she used another color. I dunno. My hubby was just sitting there with a needle in his arm. *Side note* he got his vein blown out and had this softball size bruise on his arm. So I called the local LabCorp facility and of course, they didn't have a clue what I was talking about. We didn't have the orders anymore since they kept them, but since the hospital lab couldn't do it, they had scanned the orders and could print copies. We pick those up and head to LabCorp for him to get pricked again. Now, we wait another freaking 2 weeks for that result.
#3 Karotype was normal!
#4 Phone consult with our RE
Didn't really have anything to go over: I made all the appointments according to the saline sono/mock, baseline, lining check, etc. He said that I need the saline sono to check for scarring and some polyps after the D&C. I wondered about that because I figured since they would scrape it that there wasn't going to be any polyps.

Getting your meds...the real nightmare
Ordering your meds is easy...your RE's nurse calls in the script.
What is crappy then? Well, everything after that!
I have been through 4 Clomid cycles, 4 IUI injectable cycles, 1 Fresh IVF, and now 1 Frozen Transfer.
Good lord...you'd think that these pharmacies would be better than this since we are already going through so much stress.
WRONG. lol
Here are some tips and tricks to get your meds easily (as you can) and for the best price:
#1 Order early!
As soon as you get your order, your nurse should be calling it in. If for some reason you have to call them in, DON'T WAIT!!!!!!!! If you are at work, use your work phone. Seriously.
Your pharmacy will NEVER call you. I am serious. In 5 years of this crap, I have NEVER had them call me and say "Julie, we have your order. Wanna talk about payment & delivery?"
Hell no. I always call and usually:
A.) They got the order, but something is wrong.
B.) They are working on the order and are unsure about something, but won't call anyone.
C.) My order is there and nothing is going forward with it like I don't need it in a timely manner.
Shit is ALWAYS wrong.
For starters, go through your primary prescription place first. Most likely, you will have to go through a specialty delivery place. Your local CVS will probably not have your meds and oh Lord, don't let them order them!!!!
I've had orders with names of meds on there and my specialty pharmacy will say that they are not the "preferred brand". I would have to pay FULL PRICE for those instead of a co-pay of $20 for the other brand. It's like your insurance wants Pepsi, but your RE wants you on Coca-cola. Your insurance will pay $20 for Pepsi, but wants $2,000 for Coke.
Also, you think they can change the name on the script or accept another brand?
Hell no.
You will need to tell your nurse to send them ANOTHER script with the "preferred brand" there instead. As you know, doctor's offices are not open 24/7. Most specialty pharmacies are open later like 8:00 p.m., but if you need a new script faxed, make sure you write down the names of the meds your insurance doesn't like.
Now, sometimes there will be no substitute. Menopur was one of those meds I just had to pay full price. Seriously, all the other meds cost $40 all together and Menopur alone was $1,200.
Sucks...yes. You'll get used to it.
Oh and if by chance you get the "shortage" of meds like I did with Del Estrogen, then you can take the time and flip out calling multiple places looking for it. I still don't get that: it's not like it was the cure all for ailments.
#2 Call around.
I didn't realize this at first, but once you become a veteran at this crap (how depressing!) you realize that like any store, there are going to be different prices.
Go through your insurance first, but try other places like Freedom Fertility Pharmacy.
Call them and give them your info and what meds you are supposed to order.
Here's the lesson I learned too late: we were going through Freedom Fertility for my first 2 IUI cycles because my former RE's nurse said that is what they do. My insurance wasn't even taken into consideration because according to her "they never pay for fertility meds". This wasn't my insurance in particular...just any insurance. And while I get that these are not live or die meds, they are still meds needed for a disease.
So we were paying minor discounted price for Gonal-F etc. Then we called around for the 3rd IUI cycle and found out that 4 Gonal-F 900 pens were $20 with my insurance. Holy shit. We seriously paid over $400 or something the month before.
*Side note, my husband reminded me that Freedom Fertility did con us: we were not told that our insurance was run in the 1st and 2nd IUI cycles. We were just given a price and we ASSUMED it was because of insurance.
When ordering our 3rd IUI cycle, Freedom Fertility told us that our "over rides" were exhausted. Confused, we asked what they were referring to and the rep said that we had use their "over rides" twice and that was it: from then on we would pay thousands for Gonal-F. Yeah, not happening. We went back to CVS specialty.
#3 Look for rebates, coupon cards, or call the manufacturer
Literally just Google your med name and the words "rebate", "coupon" or "manufacturer". I have used rebates and recieved like $10 back. A small amount yes, but still money in my pocket and not in theirs.
I have used coupon cards not like your typical coupons, but kinda like "I'm poor and need assistance" coupons that look like insurance cards. I guess I cannot explain it well, but when searching Google, I was able to print out sheets that had Group Number, Bin Number, and Rx numbers. I would then call the pharmacy and tell them to run those like additional insurances or coupons.
Sometimes it worked and other times it didn't. At least I tried.
I actually called the company that makes Menopur and pleaded with them to get samples, coupons, rebates, etc. Anything I could use to get money off. Alas, I got nothing, but at least I tried.
Again, save yourself some time to do this: you don't want to be searching the week before you need the meds. Most meds are ordered pretty early: like 3-4 weeks before you NEED to take them, but don't dick around and wait. EVER.
#4 Check your meds & what they charged you
When you make the final submission of what meds you are going to get, they will ask you when you need them. I always say "next week". Everytime. If I need them in 4 weeks, I tell the pharmacy "next week".
When you set up your delivery day, make sure you ask them to repeat to you the list of meds that are to come. Ask for a syringe disposal box, gauze, band-aids, or alcohol swabs. They might be free. I know with Freedom Fertility they were, but not CVS specialty.
If you don't ask for the them to be repeated, just like a fast food order, shit is not gonna be in there and you will be pissed.
Don't give them your credit card early: wait for them to get you set up with a delivery or at least the list of meds they have in stock. It annoyed me that I wrote in my checkbook one lump sum only to see that they charged individual amounts on different days. I know I must sound like a bitch, but I complained about that. It was CVS specialty that did that: I told them that taking money out on different days ruined my balancing my account.
Oh and another thing they did to me was not tell me the co-pay price for one of my meds. Yeah. Stupid right? It happened. I complained about that too: I ended up talking to the lady in accounts and said that it was bad business to just send a med without telling me the price.
During my first IVF cycle, there were soooooooooooo many meds! And they forgot my Z packs. Did I need it right away? No. I paid for it and didn't get it. You bet I called those fuckers up and they were able to send the script to my local CVS to get that night.
I feel like Veruca Salt: "I don't care how......I want it NOW!" Cue falling into a bad egg bin.
Anywho, get your meds...you paid for that shit!
#5 Keep the receipts
Of course you are going to do this, but get a folder or 3 ring binder ready for them. Double check them. I even entered all of them into Excel so when I do my taxes, I can have the sheet ready to go: auto summed and everything. See this page so you can do this like me! LOL Writing off your IVF expenses
I have all my procedure co-pays, invoices, etc. in my folder too. And on Excel.
And I have all the mileage too.
Yes, you are infertile and anal-retentive.
#6 Don't get scared
IUI cycles with injectables use less meds than IVF. There are only 3 meds that I was on for my FET.
So....once your order comes in, it will freak you out. Some meds need to be refrigerated and you might get like 3 big boxes. It's mostly bubble wrap since they are syringes.
I work like 99.9% of people in the world and of course, the meds had to be signed for and delivered by 4:00. Yeah, I'm not losing a day of work to get these meds.
I was able to use my mom's work place address since she works in a doctor's office. But even if your family didn't work in medical facility, you could get your meds to go elsewhere. Just make sure that the person getting them for you can see which ones need to go in the fridge.
Most likely, they will be freaked out and put all in the fridge and that's okay. LOL
What is crappy then? Well, everything after that!

Saline sono/Mock transfer
Had my mock and saline sono on Friday, June 20th. Everything looked good: no scarring from the D&C, polyps, or anything else.
Luckily, this was painless as I have heard from a few people that theirs hurt!
Now I am still on birth control until June 28th. Then I go on the 30th for a baseline check and start my estradiol and PIO shots.
